‘It doesn’t matter’: Rio Ferdinand blasts £140k-a-week Arsenal ace who isn’t value for money spent on Him – Not Havertz
Rio Ferdinand says £70m has proven that he hasn’t been ‘value for money’ at Arsenal.
The 28-year-old moved to Arsenal in 2019 for a then-club-record transfer fee of £72 million (Sky Sports), which has since been smashed by summer capture, Declan Rice.
But when Nicolas Pepe arrived, there were big things expected of the speedster, but he just couldn’t get going, even though Mikel Arteta provided him with a lot of chances.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was taking shots at the London club for paying big money for the player and then the left-footer not delivering, after Arsenal fans were criticising Mason Mount and his poor start to life at Old Trafford, as he told Vibe with Five.
Two games in and Mount is already getting questioned, not from inside of Manchester United, but from the outside.
That’s the nature of football and how fans no longer give players time to settle, but one man that can’t complain about such a thing is Pepe.
“Let’s not talk value for money when you have man in your squad that you know what I mean (aren’t value for money),” said Ferdinand.
“Pepe. You can’t talk like that (response to an Arsenal fan disrespecting Mason Mount and his price-tag). We woulda, shoulda and coulda. You did (pay the money for Pepe). You laid it out. Should, woulda and coulda ain’t there. It doesn’t matter. How many years?”

Out on loan last season, where he didn’t impress, was not part of this summer’s pre-season tour and has yet to make a single matchday squad this season.
The signs are pretty clear for Pepe and that’s the fact that the £140k-a-week star (Spotrac) isn’t wanted at Arsenal, anymore – he could be headed to Turkey.
Bukayo Saka is now king of that right flank and unless Arsenal sign Mohamed Salah tomorrow, then there aren’t many players in the world that are going to push the England star out of a starting spot.
