“It is my understanding” – Pundit reveals how close William Saliba is to signing a new contract with Arsenal.

Arsenal centre-back William Saliba could sign a contract extension “in the next couple of months”, according to CBS reporter Jonathan Johnson.

The journalist claims sources in France have told him that the 21-year-old is expected to commit his long-term future to the Gunners:

“It is my understanding on the French end that there is likely to be a contract extension at some point in the next couple of months.”

Saliba’s current deal actually expires at the end of the season, although Arsenal reportedly have an option to extend his stay for an additional twelve months.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be keeping an eye on the defender’s situation, but talks over remaining at the Emirates have intensified in recent weeks.

Saliba came in from the cold to become a regular for Mikel Arteta’s side at the start of the campaign and he hasn’t looked back from there, playing a key role with the Gunners top of the Premier League table.

If he does sign on the dotted line, it would be a massive boost for the London club, who will be tying down one of Europe’s top centre-halves for his best years.
