Over the past few days, discussion linking Arsenal and Cristiano Ronaldo has been doing the rounds.
The Portugal international’s Manchester United contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
This came after Ronaldo’s controversial interview with presenter and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan.
Morgan has made no secret of the fact that he wants the 37-year-old at the Emirates Stadium.
This has led to discussion amongst Arsenal fans on social media, with quite a few seemingly agreeing with Morgan.
There has also been opposition to the potential prospect of Ronaldo linking up with the Gunners.
Goal.com’s Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts is vehemently against the idea.
‘So mad on so many levels’
On his YouTube channel, he made it clear that Ronaldo should not be coming anywhere near Arsenal at present.
“I’m so surprised by the amount of Arsenal fans I’ve seen saying, and agreeing with Piers Morgan, that Arsenal should sign Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Watts.
“It honestly it blows my mind… I just find it so mad on so many levels that people seem to be entertaining the idea that Arsenal or Arteta should look to bring in Ronaldo for the last six months of the season.
“It just literally blows my mind. I don’t get it. I mean, look, Cristiano Ronaldo is a wonderful, wonderful footballer. One of the all-time greats.
“Not as good as Messi in my mind – I know plenty of people will disagree on that.
“One of the all-time greats, one of the greatest players ever to lace his boots and play football… he should not be coming anywhere near Arsenal right now.”
Watts argued that Ronaldo’s willingness to “rock the boat that much” in order to try and force a move because “he can’t deal with being a substitute” is “the biggest red flag”.
He also feels that signing Ronaldo would set the club back after Arteta and Edu spent so long reshaping the squad and dressing room into a “young, vibrant squad that is packed full of unity”.

Watts makes some very good points. And personally, I can’t see Arteta moving for Ronaldo.
There are managers out there willing to accomodate one or more galactico-style players in a squad.
Arteta is not one of those. Indeed, he has ruthlessly frozen out and offloaded stars who don’t sing from his hymn sheet.
Ronaldo joining Arsenal is certainly not impossible. If Leicester can win a Premier League title and Greece lift a European Championship, clearly anything can happen.
However, it doesn’t seem likely.
