Arsenal are on the verge of securing their first departure in the January transfer window as they look to raise funds for players, according to reports.

Mikel Arteta is keen to recruit a new striker with Brentford’s Ivan Toney made the club’s No.1 target as they look to keep pace with Liverpool and Manchester City.

The Gunners are also thought to have ‘strong interest’ in signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and are considering making a move for Ajax’s 17-year-old wonderkid Jorrel Hato.

Arsenal are in a tight spot regarding profitability and sustainability rules (PSR), though, which may limit their activity unless they can offload some players.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal may be about to secure their first sale, with growing transfer interest in Egypt international Mohamed Elneny.

Turkish clubs Trabzonspor and Besiktas have already launched offers which Arsenal are currently considering.

Elneny has made a total of four appearances for Arsenal this season and has played just one minute of Premier League football.

The 31-year-old midfielder moved to the Emirates in 2016 and he has featured 159 times for the Gunners.

Elneny, who spent time on loan at Besiktas in the 2019-20 season, sees his Arsenal contract expire in the summer.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have lost their last two Premier League games and return to top-flight action on January 20 when they host Crystal Palace.
