Jack Grealish has told Athletic Club Momento that Gabriel Jesus was frightening in training, while he shared what Bukayo Saka said to him about the striker following his move to Arsenal as he named the Brazilian as one of the most underrated players in the game.
Jesus has made a brilliant start to life at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta’s men sit at the top of the Premier League table. And the 25-year-old’s arrival appears to have been a catalyst for their rapid rise up the division.
Jesus appears to be the perfect striker for Arteta’s system. He has been directly involved in 11 goals in the top-flight. He also works unbelievably hard for the team. The likes of Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have a lot to thank him for, it seems.
Nevertheless, Grealish believes that Jesus is still yet to get the full credit he deserves. Of course, the pair worked together at Manchester City before the striker’s exit. And he insisted that he was amazed by what he saw from Jesus.
“Ask anyone that’s played with him – I know he’s getting more recognition now, but he’s the main man,” he told Athletic Club Momento.
“In training, honestly, he was frightening. I spoke to Saka last month and he was like: ‘Jack, he’s unbelievable’. Jesus’ play is just this mix of proper rawness and skill. He’s a lovely guy, but he’s so hungry and aggressive when he plays.”
It must be said that there has been one criticism of Jesus during his time at the Emirates. His tally of five goals in 14 league games is underwhelming.
His last league goal actually came in the North London derby win over Tottenham two months ago today. And that probably did his hopes of leading the line for Brazil at the World Cup few favours.
However, Jesus brings so much to the Arsenal team. Kevin De Bruyne is the only Premier League players with more assists than the Arsenal striker.
Arsenal will certainly have absolutely no regrets about signing him in the summer. And clearly, Grealish believes that City could end up ruing the decision to let him go with an exciting title race brewing
