Manchester United will need to agree a loan deal with a mandatory buy clause to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to Corriere dello Sport (page 5).
The Moroccan has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer and yesterday, the club made a loan proposal which was turned down.
It is now revealed that the Serie A outfit won’t accept a straight loan deal for the 27-year-old, and they want a mandatory buy clause of over €20 million as part of the move.
Corriere dello Sport mention that Nottingham Forest agreed to pay a similar transfer fee this week, but Amrabat rejected the opportunity to join Steve Cooper’s side.
United face tough negotiations to land Amrabat
On Wednesday, United proposed a loan deal for Amrabat for just €2m. They offered to pay part of the fee up front with the remaining after the January transfer window.
However, they also proposed a break clause at the beginning of the year. Hence, the Serie A outfit would be guaranteed with just €1m. In our view, this was a disrespectful bid.
Fiorentina were right to turn down the proposal from United. The onus is now on the hierarchy to meet the demands of the Florence outfit to sign the ‘world-class‘ player.
La Viola were initially requesting around €30m for the Moroccan, but they have lowered his valuation by €10m. However, they want the guarantee of receiving the fee.
United don’t have funds at the moment due to their Financial Fair Play situation, but need to find a solution fast or else Amrabat could stay with the Serie A club.
Fiorentina have already received a €20m bid from Forest, and are unlikely to accept less. United’s best chance of signing Amrabat could be on loan with an obligatory buy clause.
