This week, it was confirmed that the Spaniard lost striker Kai Havertz for the remainder of this Premier League campaign, following his hamstring injury sustained during their warm-weather training camp to Dubai.
Havertz joins Gabriel Jesus on the treatment table long-term, with the latter also playing his last game of the season after he ruptured his ACL in their FA Cup third round defeat to Man United on penalties earlier this season.
To make matters worse, Arsenal remain without both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, leaving Arteta very short of attacking options in the final third. In his latest pre-match press conference, Arteta suggested that the likes of Raheem Sterling and Leandro Trossard could be set to play a variety of roles.
“Yes and for other players as well, and for Leo [Trossard] to probably play in two or three different positions,” said Arteta, when asked about Sterling being in line for more minutes.
“It’s between all of us, we have mentioned that many times. It’s adding value from different players. It’s probably been a little bit different in adapting to the qualities and the strengths of our players so go for it, the spirit is pretty certainly the same.”
In any case, Arsenal have been criticised for their transfer failings as a result of this crisis, with the north Londoners also looking like outside Premier League title contenders at best, given Liverpool are seven points clear.

Arsenal make contact with Antonio Cordero’s agents ahead of possible free deal
Interim sporting director Jason Ayto and Arsenal are already looking ahead to next summer in an attempt to bolster the squad’s attacking final third, with Malaga sensation Antonio Cordero believed to be a serious target.
The 18-year-old, who’s registered 10 goal contributions across 2024/2025 (four goals, six assists), is a player of sky-high potential. A host of top English sides, including Newcastle United, Tottenham, West Ham, Aston Villa, Brighton, Nottingham Forest.
That is according to The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, who report that Arsenal have made contact with Cordero’s agents for talks recently.
While there is a belief that Newcastle are the outright favourites right now, with terms apparently agreed, Arsenal remain in contention – as no transfer is officially complete until the player signs on the dotted line.
Football Analyst Ben Mattinson, taking to X, explained exactly why Arteta’s side have taken such a keen interest with Cordero’s contract expiring this summer.
“Antonio Cordero is another exciting winger in Segunda División,” wrote Mattinson. “Antoñito is direct + comfortable either wing. Quality crossing on either foot. At RW, he’s good at bombing down the line, keeping the ball away from the defender and whipping/floating in crosses on his right foot.
“At LW, Antoñito Cordero is comfortable driving outside onto his left to cross but also loves to cut inside to shoot. With a fairly high shot volume (over 3 shots per 90), he won’t hesitate to shoot. Off the ball he looks to stretch the running in behind. Good decision maker.”
