JUST IN: ‘Amazing’ forward has just rejected Arsenal and Conte; will now sign for Barcelona instead
Any hopes Arsenal or Tottenham had of signing Youssoufa Moukoko appear to be over, with the forward intent on signing for Barcelona instead.
That’s according to Spanish outlet Sport anyway, who say today that the young Dortmund star will focus on signing for Barcelona in the summer above everyone else. It means Moukoko, still just a teenager, will run down his contract with the German side and simply leave for nothing.
Moukoko is regarded as one of the top young talents in Europe right now. A number of English clubs are known to be keen on signing him, including both Arsenal and Tottenham.
Dubbed an ‘amazing‘ talent for what he’s shown with Dortmund already, Moukoko going for nothing will be a blow.
A report from The Times recently also listed Chelsea and Manchester United as admirers of Moukoko. But it appears the lure of the Camp Nou and the likelihood of a bucket full of cash has swayed the youngster.
For the likes of Arsenal and Spurs, missing out on Moukoko won’t alter plans too much. The forward was very much seen as a nice to have, rather than an immediate priority.
Our View: Moukoko always likely to look elsewhere
Ultimately, it seems Moukoko has the pick of clubs in Europe and he was always going to be interested in a Barcelona or Madrid if they came knocking.
The one thing that might worry – or should – is how poorly Ousmane Dembele has done with Barca since leaving Dortmund. That move should serve as a warning for the youngster of what can happen if things don’t quite go to plan.
For Moukoko himself, the chance of playing in the PL might come again, if he does well in Spain. He’ll no doubt be one to watch into the future and in all likelihood, is a name that will get linked to these same clubs somewhere down the line.
