JUST IN: Arsenal now make £62m+ bid to agree deal for 18-goal/assist star – Personal terms agreed
Arsenal have tabled a fresh transfer offer for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have identified the Ukrainian star as their priority target for the transfer window and talks have been ongoing over the past few weeks.
Shakhtar are understood to value their prized asset at £89 million (€100m) but the Gunners are aiming to sign him by paying a lesser fee up front.
They have already made a couple of bids for Mudryk and it is now revealed by Romano that a third proposal of £62m plus add-ons has been placed.
Personal terms are not an issue with the 21-year-old eager to join the club and talks are currently ongoing over the structure of the future add-ons.
Arsenal on the verge of Mudryk deal
Arsenal are clearly determined to sign the highly-rated winger this month. The cost of the transfer appears on the higher side, but they are backing his immense potential.
Mudryk was fabulous for Shakhtar during the first half of the campaign. He bagged 10 goals and eight assists from 18 games. Five of those goal involvements came in the Champions League.
Aside from his creativity in the final third, the youngster has also impressed with his direct running with sheer pace. He has averaged nearly two dribbles per game in Europe this term.
As things stand, it looks like Mudryk will end up at Arsenal by next week. It will be interesting to see whether this has a direct impact on Gabriel Martinelli’s starting spot.
Mudryk is predominantly a left-winger by trade. The Gunners are unlikely to spend such sums of money only to keep him on the bench as an impact substitute this season.
In our opinion, the duo could start in alternate games. Martinelli could also be played up front by Mikel Arteta. The Brazilian started his Gunners career from the number nine role.
