Kylian Mbappe could play a big part in the outcome of the Premier League title race this season after coming to a decision regarding his future.
The Paris Saint-Germain star has been in a contract stand-off with his employers having decided against activating the clause in his contract to extend his stay by a further year. Right now, Mbappe is set to leave the club on a free transfer next summer amid a desire to join Real Madrid.
However, after being forced to train away from Luis Enrique’s first-team in the last week, the 24-year-old looks to have settled his short-term future. Today (Sunday, August 13), Mbappe has returned to training and is extremely likely to stay at the club.
Mbappe watched Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Lorient from the stands before PSG confirmed the striker had been reinstated into Enrique’s plans following ‘very constructive and positive’ talks with president Nasser Al Khelaifi.
And according to French outlet Foot Mercato, the Ligue 1 champions are back in contract talks with Mbappe. It’s said that Mbappe wants assurances that he will be allowed to leave if Real Madrid offer enough money.
However, the same report claims that the forward wants PSG to sign Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva. The Parisians were linked with the Portuguese earlier in the window amid speculation surrounding the 28-year-old’s future in the Premier League.
Silva was instrumental in City’s treble-winning campaign last year and is expected to play another starring role in their hopes of retaining the title. However, should he leave the club, it would be a huge boost for Arsenal.
The Gunners have expectations of challenging for the Premier League title once again this season after finishing second last term. City, like Arsenal, have further upgraded their squad this summer but losing Silva would be a boost to the rest of the league.
