JUST IN: Manchester Utd board have finally agreed to sell their star midfielder as Ten Hag is sure to include buy-back clause in deal – Casemiro or Eriksen

Manchester United have agreed to sell Charlie Savage after the midfielder missed out on Erik ten Hag’s 31-man squad for their US pre-season tour.

Savage was handed his first team debut by Ralf Rangnick in a Champions League match against Young Boys back in 2021.

The midfielder spent last season on loan with Forest Green Rovers in League One and he is now expected to depart on a permanent basis.

According to Manchester Evening News, Reading have agreed a permanent deal to take the 20-year-old this summer.

Man Utd have included a ‘significant sell-on fee’ in the deal along with the option to match any bid for the youngster in the future.

Former Forest Green Rovers manager Duncan Ferguson was full of praise for Savage and the impact he had last season.

“He’s been fantastic for me. On Sunday [against Sheffield Wednesday], he covered more than 12 kilometres. He was wearing the vest that tracks his distance. That’s incredible,” Ferguson told reporters.

“He’s 19-years old, what an engine he’s got. And he’s a good player. He’s like his dad. Enthusiastic, runs around. He was the highest-distance player on Sunday so that just shows you the character of the kid.”

Along with Savage, Man Utd have also sold the likes of Ethan Laird and Zidane Iqbal in this window.

Prior to being sent out on loan, Savage did spend some time training with the first team squad and being coached by Ten Hag.

“I spent the first two, three months of the season with them every day, so it was a really, really good experience learning from him and taking knowledge from him,” Savage admitted.

Having recently been relegated from the Championship, Reading will be looking to secure promotion from League One as soon as possible

Savage will no doubt be excited by the new challenge as he will get the chance to establish himself as a first team regular in the Reading squad.
