Man city boss Pep Guardiola set to highjack deal for £50m Portuguese star, who is keen to join Arsenal this month – Guardiola had secret meeting with the player today
David Ornstein has suggested Manchester City are also interested in a Premier League star Arsenal are long-time admirers of.
Pedro Neto enjoyed an outstanding first-half of the season with Wolves. Despite missing nine Premier League games due to injury, the Portuguese has already contributed eight assists.
No-one has set up more goals so far this season, which is remarkable given that he has only made 11 appearances in the campaign.
David Ornstein says Manchester City are also keen on Arsenal target Pedro Neto
Unsurprisingly, the 23-year-old is attracting a lot of attention. Arsenal are interested in Neto as they look to provide further cover and competition for Bukayo Saka.
But it seems that Mikel Arteta may have to see off competition from his old boss if he hopes to sign Neto.
In a Q&A for The Athletic, journalist David Ornstein was asked about the likelihood of Neto moving to the Emirates. And he claimed that Manchester City also have their eye on the wide-man.
“No expectation of him leaving Wolves in January. Summer could well be a different story. Man City like him, as do a couple of other big clubs. We know Arsenal have a long-standing admiration,” he said.
Pep Guardiola’s interest won’t do Gunners any favours
The interest from the Premier League champions will obviously concern Arsenal. Moving to the Etihad Stadium is going to be tempting for any player in the world right now.
The Gunners are more of a work in progress right now. They are still awaiting the chance to get across the line with this current side.
And of course, any right winger moving to Arsenal is facing the prospect of battling with Saka.
But signing Neto would also allow Mikel Arteta to properly rest the 22-year-old. Arsenal are looking set to be battling on four fronts for several years to come. So there would be plenty of opportunities to rotate.
Wolves meanwhile, will be aware that Manchester City and Arsenal both targeting Neto will only help them get a massive fee for the starlet.
