Man United will formalize £34m offer once this happens – fans waiting for official announcement
Manchester United are waiting to resolve Harry Maguire’s future before making a massive bid that would blow the competition out of the water for Benjamin Pavard’s signature.
It’s not a secret Erik ten Hag isn’t best pleased with his defensive options. The recent weeks have seen United agree a fee with West Ham for the permanent exit of Harry Maguire, and submit their own unsuccessful bid for Pavard.
Yesterday’s 2-0 set-back against Tottenham Hotspur, in which Lisandro Martinez scored an own-goal, is only going to strengthen the belief that United’s defence needs addressing this summer.
Reports in Italy suggest the Red Devils intend to make another move for the Bayern star, but a lot depends on Maguire’s future.
Serie A outfit Inter are also keen to sign Pavard, who’s understood to be favoring a move to Milan. However, they are yet to meet the Bavarian’s asking price of 35 million euros. As per today’s version of Corriere dello Sport (press image provided below), the Nerazzurri’s latest offer is 25 million euros plus bonuses.
Now, the ideal move from Inter would be to wait it out until the final days of the summer transfer window and test Bayern’s resolve.
The Bundesliga giants aren’t in the strongest position on the negotiating table as the France international has so far indicated he’s willing to leave for free in the summer of 2024 should they not sell him this summer.
However, United are described as a ‘bogeyman’ in the saga by the Italian newspaper, as it’s suggested they are willing to offer as much as 40 million euros (£34m) for the 27-year-old. They just want Bayern to wait for them to sell Maguire.
Interestingly, the English side’s first offer for Pavard only came after they agreed a fee with West Ham before the deal collapsed. Finding another suitor for the Englishman is easier said than done. Until that happens, their £34m offer for Pavard can be considered nothing but ‘virtual’.
