Manchester United next five fixtures compared to Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle as Ten Hag men set for tough battle away from Old Trafford
Chelsea were able to end an unwanted record in their Premier League victory against Luton Town on Saturday. Prior to the trip to Kenilworth Road, the Blues had lost their last four league games away from Stamford Bridge with defeats coming against Newcastle, Manchester United, Everton and Wolves over the last month.
Cole Palmer was the star of the show as it was his two goals and assist that allowed Chelsea to be in control with 70 minutes on the clock. However, late strikes from former Chelsea star Ross Barkley and Elijah Adebayo made it a nervy final few minutes with both Thiago Silva and Djordje Petrovic putting their bodies on the line to preserve the points.
Despite nearly conceding to Luton’s comeback, Pochettino was full of praise for his players and their performance. “I am so pleased, because I think it is never easy,” he told reporters after the game. “We needed to win, I think we controlled the game until the second half, 60-65 minutes. Overall we were the better side and fully deserved the result.
“When you concede you build the belief of the opponent. The Premier League is like this, if you see games like Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Newcastle, you understand the difficulty of playing here in this atmosphere. They believe in the way they play, very good players, very good coach and it is tough to play here. We needed the three points and we got what we wanted.”
Despite the victory, Chelsea remain in tenth, 12 points off the top four positions with a fierce battle expected for the European spots. With that said, football.london has taken a look at a number of Chelsea’s rivals and their upcoming fixtures heading into 2024.
Fulham (H) – January 13
The clash against Luton was the first reverse fixture of the season with another to arrive in January against Fulham. The Blues kick off the year in FA Cup action against Preston before a London derby at Stamford Bridge with Pochettino able to complete another league double following the 2-0 victory at Craven Cottage earlier in the season.

Injury returns could arrive in time for the fixture with a significant number of days between fixtures after the hectic December schedule.
Liverpool (A) – January 31
Chelsea head to Anfield at the end of January following their Premier League winter break with a clash against Liverpool. The Pochettino era kicked off against Jurgen Klopp’s men with an exciting draw contested at Stamford Bridge.
The Reds look set to compete for the Premier League title with Arsenal and Liverpool although their chances could be affected by the absence of Mohamed Salah, who could also miss this game.
Wolves (H) – February 4
Revenge will be on the agenda for Chelsea in their first February fixture as they face a repeat of their Christmas Eve clash with Wolves. Gary O’Neill’s side beat the Blues 2-1 on that day and he will be hoping for his side to continue their good form with three consecutive wins over the Christmas period.
Crystal Palace (A) – February 12
Another London derby arrives for Chelsea with a challenging visit to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace. A dismal run of form came to an end this past weekend with the Eagles winning their first game in nine against Brentford.
The Blues narrowly got past Roy Hodgson’s side earlier this month with Noni Madueke scoring a late penalty and he was able to continue his scoring form with the second strike of Chelsea’s three against Luton.
Manchester City (A) – February 17
Arguably the hardest fixture of the season is on the agenda in February for Chelsea when they travel to Etihad Stadium for a clash against reigning champions Manchester City. Cole Palmer scored a late equaliser in a chaotic eight-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season and another mouth-watering clash may be on the cards.
