Manchester United now considering signing £25m Tottenham player after sending Sergio Reguilon back – Ten Hag wants another left back as back up for Luke Shaw

Manchester United have sent Sergio Reguilon back to Tottenham but are now considering if they can get Ryan Sessegnon instead.

Sessegnon is currently recovering from a long-term injury but was due to return to Tottenham training with the group a few weeks ago.

The England under-21 star has had a miserable time of things since moving to Spurs for around £25m back in 2019. A number of injuries have held him back while a loan spell in Germany didn’t go brilliantly either.

However, that hasn’t stopped interest from United, who only sent Sergio Reguilon back to Spurs this week.

Manchester United keen on Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon
According to Miguel Delaney, writing in his latest newsletter for The Independent, United are now considering a move for Sessegnon.

Writing on United’s quest for a new left-back, Delaney had the following to say

“Along the same lines, there will be no purchases until after sales are made due to Profit and Sustainability concerns. They may need a full-back to replace Sergio Reguilon and that open channel to Tottenham Hotspur has raised the prospect of Ryan Sessegnon,” Delaney wrote.

Risky signing for United
This seems an odd move for the Old Trafford outfit. Sessegnon has long been considered a talented young player but he’s been injured for a while now and it would be a massive risk for the Red Devils.

Yes, if Sessegnon was fit and ready to go and prove himself somewhere then sure, it would be a signing worth taking a punt on.

But really, it stinks again of United trying to go for someone who is just nowhere near what they need right now.

Sessegnon hasn’t set the world alight at all at Tottenham even when fit, so to expect him to come in at Old Trafford after so long out and make an impact is a bit odd.

For United, there are surely other options out there than Ryan Sessegnon right now.
