Manchester Utd boss Erik ten Hag opens door to Jadon Sancho return – but with ‘culture’ warning

Erik ten Hag has left the door open for Jadon Sancho to return to his Manchester United side – but only if he apologises.

Sancho, 23, has been banished from the first team since he criticised the Old Trafford boss on social media after the Dutchman revealed why he was dropped for a clash against Arsenal in September.

The England winger claimed he had been made a ‘scapegoat’ after Ten Hag said he was left out of the squad because of his training performances.

It looks like United will sell Sancho when the transfer window opens next month. But Ten Hag said: “So it is about a culture and every player has to match certain standards and it was about that.

“What will happen there, he knows what he has to do, if he wants to return and it is up to him. He knows what he has to do, it is up to him.” Ten Hag said it was an ‘internal matter’ when asked if Sancho was still on full pay while training away from the first team.

Former United midfielder Nemanja Matic revealed this week that Sancho, along with Paul Pogba, was late for training on more than one occasion during his time at the club.

Victor Lindelof is set to miss today’s clash with Bournemouth at Old Trafford after picking up an injury during the win over Chelsea.

That means Luke Shaw is likely to step into centre back which could mean a start for Sergio Reguilon. The on-loan Tottenham defender could be heading back to Spurs next month as the North Londoners have a clause to call him back.

It’s a two-way break clause in the season-long loan agreement. United’s other left-back Tyrell Malacia is not due back until the New Year.

Ten Hag added: “We have to make a final decision but also there is Spurs who are involved in that as well.”
