Manchester Utd want to agree deal for €30m midfielder, ‘ready to overcome’ competition in January – report

Manchester United are ready to overcome competition from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain to sign Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, according to TuttoJuve.

The Red Devils were interested in the France international last summer but they could not convince Monaco. The Ligue 1 outfit turned down a loan deal with a buy clause.

This has not ended their interest in the defensive midfielder and TuttoJuve claim that the Red Devils are prepared to make another approach to sign the 24-year-old.

The Italian outlet add that the club are ready to ward off competition from the likes of Juventus and PSG to sign the former Strasbourg man valued at €30 million.

Fofana would be a good acquisition for Man Utd
United had their sights on pursuing Fofana’s signature last winter but their proposal was knocked back by Monaco. The club went on to sign Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina.

There is an option to buy the Moroccan at the end of the campaign, but United could still revisit their interest in Fofana. It could happen in January depending on Casemiro’s future.

The Brazilian has shown signs of slowing down in the current season. He is currently on the sidelines until the turn of the year after suffering a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup.

Casemiro has been linked with a move to Saudi in January. If a deal materialises, United could utilise the funds to purchase Fofana, who would be a like-for-like replacement.

Fofana is strong when it comes to tackling and winning duels. He possesses good pace off the ball and has averaged an impressive 7.4 ball recoveries per league game this term.

At 24, he is just in the prime of his career and should prove a good acquisition with his superb work rate. In our view, he appears a no-brainer signing for the price mentioned.
