Fabrizio Romano claims Hannibal Mejbri heading to Sevilla
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano now reports that United midfielder Hannibal is set to sign for La Liga side Sevilla.
Romano has given the move his usual ‘here we go’ catchphrase, indicating that the deal is on the verge of completion.
Romano claims that the agreement has been completed with Sevilla taking Hannibal on loan until the summer with an option to buy included.
That option to buy will stand at €20million (£17.2million) – and Romano adds that United will not have a buy-back clause in the deal.
It had been expected that United would hold an option to bring Hannibal back to the club, but that will not be the case according to Romano.
Romano notes that Sevilla wanted Hannibal in the summer and the deal is now ‘finally done’ with a medical imminent.
Hannibal and Fernandez exits will divide opinion
United’s Financial Fair Play situation has been well-documented and the club need to start making some sales.
Money for young players who maybe aren’t quite at the level to play regular Premier League football is a solid way to raise funds in the short term.
We have seen Manchester City do that to great effect over the years and United may now make some tough decisions.
Hannibal and Fernandez are two talented young players with bags of energy and plenty of potential to become stars in the future.
There is a strong chance that the purchase options in these two loan deals are activated in the summer, and it may sting that the pair would be moving on without a run of first-team games – especially in Fernandez’s case.
Some won’t be happy but United are trying to raise funds by any means possible – even if it means offloading talents like Hannibal and Fernandez.
