West Ham captain Declan Rice is edging closer to a move to Arsenal after he was granted permission to undergo a medical at Emirates Stadium, according to talkSPORT.
Fabrizio Romano reported via Twitter (28 June) that West Ham have finally accepted Arsenal’s third bid of more than £100million for their star midfielder.
The finer details of the deal are now being discussed as the clubs remain locked in negotiations over payment terms, with the Hammers wanting the £100million guaranteed paid within 18 months.
However, according to an update provided by talkSPORT (28 June), Rice has been given permission to undergo his Arsenal medical despite a deal not yet being signed off.
Done deal
This latest update clearly signals that a deal is all but completed.
With Romano suggesting that just the finer details of the negotiations were left to be resolved, some fans may have perhaps still had a slight feeling there was a possibility the deal wasn’t fully secured. However, this latest update will squash any fears or hopes of Rice remaining at West Ham.
Permission for a medical being granted suggests the two clubs are certain the deal will be done. While it will be sad for fans to see their boyhood hero depart for their London rivals, they have come out rather well off from this transfer saga.
Despite nearing the end of his contract the club have still managed to command a British record fee for their captain and fans will now be excited to see how these funds are redistributed across the squad.
Rice will leave a huge hole in that midfield but surely £100million will be enough to find a replacement.
