Medical set: Arsenal in pole position to sign 21-yr-old star player, his replacement’s already passed medical – announcement imminent

Arsenal lead Chelsea in the race to sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Both London clubs have shared a long-term interest in the 21-year-old and had bids rejected for him in the January transfer window.

They are expected to reignite that interest in the summer, but it is understood that the Gunners have a far better chance of landing the Ecuador international.

Brighton are now resigned to losing Caicedo when a suitable bid arrives this summer, with the player valued between £70-80millio

The Seagulls believe they have already found a natural replacement for Caicedo in Mahmoud Dahoud, who is set to sign for the south coast side from Borussia Dortmund when the summer window opens.

Football Insider sources revealed on Tuesday (16 May) that Brighton are set to finalise a deal for Dahoud with a medical already completed.

Arsenal find themselves in pole position to sign Caicedo as the player is keen to play in the Champions League at his next club.

The Gunners will return to the elite European competition in 2023/24 after six years away, and Caicedo is leaning towards a move to the Emirates after Chelsea’s underwhelming league campaign.

Caicedo has been a standout player in Roberto De Zerbi’s side this season, scoring and assisting once in 40 appearances across all competitions.

His tireless workrate and defensive capabilities have made him a crucial part of the Brighton starting lineup, with Caicedo ranking second in the Premier League for tackles made in 2022/23.
