Arsenal

Meeting Schedule: Agent of £45m set to meet Edu tomorrow, all paperwork to be done soon – official announcement in the next 24hrs

Arsenal are planning to make an opening offer of £15 million for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, according to Daily Mail.

The Gunners recently entered the race to sign the Spain international from the Bees, and they are now weighing up a formal approach.

Raya has already given the green light to join the club and Daily Mail claim that they could propose to pay £15m for the 27-year-old.

The 27-year-old has just 11 months left on his contract, but Brentford are looking for at least £30m.

Raya would provide quality competition to Aaron Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale has been Arsenal’s undisputed goalkeeper in the Premier League since taking over from Bernd Leno in September 2021.

However, manager Mikel Arteta will not want the shot-stopper to rest on his laurels. Bringing in Raya would provide quality competition.

Raya has been one of the best goalkeepers in the English top-flight. His goal-saving and long-ball distribution are his main strengths.

Arteta has been a long-term admirer of him. Arsenal first tried to sign Raya from Brentford in 2020, but the Bees were reluctant to lose his services.

The west London outfit are now in a position where they need to sell the Spaniard or risk losing him on a free transfer at some point next year.

Raya was left out of the Brentford squad for their friendly against Aston Villa which is a clear indication that he could move on from the club.

If the Gunners strike an agreement for Raya, it is most likely that Matt Turner will head for the exit door. He is on the radar of Nottingham Forest.
