NEW SIGNING CONFIRMED: Manchester United confirmed the signing £40m World cup Hero, agreement reached overnight,4yr deal signed – Ruben Amorim welcome His second signing of the summer
Manchester United fans are eagerly awaiting what the second phase of the transfer window will bring following its reopening on Monday.
Already have the Red Devils sanctioned an early deal in the form of Matheus Cunha’s arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers after they activated his £62.5 million release clause before tying him down to a contract until 2030, plus the option of an additional year.
Now, the club are hashing out the final details in a deal that sees one senior Red extend his stay at Old Trafford until the end of the 2025/2026 campaign.
United preparing announcement for new Tom Heaton deal
Indeed, United have reached an agreement with Tom Heaton over a new, one-year deal ahead of his current terms expiring at the end of the month.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed this morning that Ruben Amorim has green-lit the agreement, with the extension set to be made ‘official soon’.
It’s thought Amorim is keen on keeping the third-choice shot-stopper around due to the influence he has on the squad. His goalkeeping expertise has also proven beneficial to the up-and-coming prospects at Carrington — which also explains why Gareth Southgate opted to include Heaton in his squad for England’s 2024 Euros campaign.
How Heaton has fared in recent years
Since returning to his boyhood club in 2021, the 39-year-old has featured only three times; twice in the League Cup and once in the Champions League. He has yet to play under Amorim since his tenure began last November.
Heaton’s most notable stint in his senior career came with Burnley from 2013 to 2019, while he has also represented Cardiff City, Bristol City and Aston Villa. He is a three-capped Three Lions international and is a product of United’s academy, having joined the youth setup from Wrexham in 2022.
