‘NOT BUKAYO SAKA’: Merson thinks £100,000-a-week Arsenal player doing too much – Some much-needed rest

Paul Merson has written in SportsKeeda that Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah needs rest and will get it now that Gabriel Jesus is about to return to action.

The former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit has suggested that Nketiah has been doing much for the Gunners in the absence of Jesus.

The Brazil international striker suffered an injury while at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Jesus joined Arsenal from defending champions Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

The striker was playing well for the Gunners before the World Cup.

Jesus is back training on grass, and it looks like he could return to action soon for Arsenal.

And Merson believes that it is good news for Nketiah.

PAUL MERSON ON ARSENAL STRIKER EDDIE NKETIAH

Merson wrote: “Jesus’ return will be like bringing in a new signing.

“It gives Eddie Nketiah some much-needed rest and the Brazilian’s return will give everyone a great deal of confidence.”

STRANGE

We do not get Paul Merson’s view on Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

Yes, it would be great for Arsenal to have Jesus back, but that would mean less playing time for Nketiah.

The £100,000-a-week (LondonWorld) English striker will surely want to play regularly and not become a substitute.

And he is only 23.

Surely, at that age, a footballer would want to play games all the time and not get tired playing one or two matches in a week.

The Arsenal no. 14 has made nine starts and 14 substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

The striker has scored four goals and given one assist in those matches.

Nketiah has scored two goals in six UEFA Europa League games, two goals in two FA Cup ties, and one goal in one Carabao Cup match for the Gunners this campaign.
