Ødegaard will feed Him for sure, take a look at those wasted chances this season’: Arsenal set to sign £120m experienced striker over Ivan Toney
Arsenal are likely to sign a striker or forward player this month and one pundit has suggested there’s a better option than Ivan Toney.
Toney has been linked with a move to the Gunners for a number of windows now but has remained at Brentford for now.
However, with the summer window close to opening, Toney’s future will be up for debate once more and Arsenal are bound to be mentioned.
But while Toney has a lot of qualities, there are other options out there.
And according to BBC Sport pundit Nigel Reo-Coker, the Gunners should look to make Newcastle’s Alexander Isak there main target.
Arsenal told to sign Alexander Isak over Ivan Toney
Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live last night, Reo-Coker admitted that while he loves Ivan Toney, Newcastle’s Isak is the main man.
“Isak would fit Arsenal better because of his style. He is more suited to a professional style in the sense how Mikel Arteta wants to play,” Reo-Coker said.
“Odegaard would feed him tremendously. I love Ivan Toney. What Ivan Toney reminds me of which I like is the individuality, that individual flair, street baller, playing like how I grew up playing cage football, Ivan Toney has that.
“But I think Isak would fit better with Mikel Arteta’s style and system which makes more sense as well.”
Getting Isak to Arsenal not easy
For all the comments on Isak and what he’d bring to the table for Arsenal, there’s a big problem in actually getting him to the club.
As exclusively reported on TBR, Newcastle are set to make Isak an offer to be the highest paid player in the club’s history. The Swede has hit the 20 goal mark this season and the Magpies’ board are keen to tie him down to fresh terms.
Further, Isak has even been spotted having discussions with the Newcastle chairman Yasir Al Rumayyan.
That suggests, then, that the Toon are confident in some way of keeping Isak at the club.
Newcastle are believed to want around £120m for Isak if he is to depart as well. Lauded by Alan Shearer for being ‘really clever’ with his play, it’s little wonder the Toon do want such a figure.
For all Arsenal’s interest, then, it could be a long road to actually getting this deal even remotely close.
