OFFICIAL: Man United first bid for £84M Top European Midfielder have just been accepted as Ruben Amorim set to welcome His first January signing in the coming days
Manchester United are searching the transfer market for opportunities to help them strengthen the midfield department in 2026. A target previously linked with a move to Old Trafford has reemerged as a possibility following a push from intermediaries.
It’s a busy period in the football calendar for teams looking to buy and sell players midway through the season.
Manchester United usually try to wait until the summer to conduct business, although Ruben Amorim welcomed two signings this time last year, and they will both feature in the upcoming Premier League clash against Leeds in the starting line-up.
That alone is proof that business can be done in January.
Who do YOU think is Man Utd’s best January signing ever? Would you change the order?
Who else should be on this list?
United have missed out on Antoine Semenyo, with the Bournemouth talisman opting to sign for title contenders Man City.
The Red Devils could also look to bolster the midfield department because it’s been a problematic area for the team throughout the season. There is room for improvement as the preferred midfield duo of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro are not getting any younger.
Intermediaries working on behalf of Man Utd for Ederson
With United seeking midfield signings, there will be agents and clubs putting proposals together for the Premier League giants.
Former United winger Gordon Hill has warned that the right players are not available, but also worries that if Amorim doesn’t get money to spend that it shows Ineos are not fully backing the head coach.
Reports this morning suggest Atalanta midfielder Ederson remains on United’s radar for the winter market.
According to TEAMtalk, United have intermediaries working on their behalf to make fresh checks on the Brazilian midfielder.
It is understood that United remain determined to make a breakthrough in their pursuit for an elite midfielder this month.
United have a long-standing interest in Ederson, which would aid any enquiry in a potential transfer, but they’ve sought clarity on his availability and valuation after suggestions from his agent that he could be got at a reduced price.
Ederson features on a list of targets that includes Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Connor Gallagher and Ruben Neves.
You have £100m to spend on a midfielder – who are YOU buying, Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton?
Or is there another realistic player you would sign instead? Let us know who!
It remains to be seen who will be signed to revamp United’s engine room in 2026.
How has Ederson performed at Atalanta this season?
Ederson has been heavily linked with a move away from Serie A outfit Atalanta for the past year.
The 26-year-old is starring for a side sitting 10th in the Italian league, so he may have hopes to join a bigger club before the opportunity to do so passes him.
Ederson has made 18 appearances for Atalanta this season, which is a sign that availability is among his strengths. It’s no good signing players who aren’t fit enough to play regularly.
The Brazil international has just one goal and one assist to his name, with both goal contributions coming in the Champions League.
