OFFICIAL NOW: Arsenal finally complete the signing of £100m striker, agreement reached overnight as Medical will be conducted in the few hours – HERE WE GO CONFIRMED

Arsenal are widely anticipated to sign a marquee striker this summer.

The Gunners had a frustrating 2024/25 league campaign as they finished 10 points behind champions Liverpool.

The club scored 22 fewer goals compared to the previous season, which partly contributed to their 14 draws.

Arsenal need to bolster their forward department, and O Jogo (page 11) claim they are in the ‘first line’ to sign striker Viktor Gyokeres alongside Manchester United and Napoli.

The Sweden international is poised to leave Sporting CP this summer. A package of around £59 million could be sufficient to persuade the Portuguese champions to sell him.

Arsenal could swoop for Gyokeres if Sesko pursuit falls through
The Gunners have started concrete talks with RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko, who is their priority striker target.

Sesko has a £67m release clause in his contract, and Arsenal are hoping to negotiate a long-term payment plan.

In case talks were to break down, Arsenal could swiftly turn their attention to Gyokeres

The Swede has given ‘his verbal agreement‘ to join Arsenal and would be a fabulous acquisition.

Sesko has a huge ceiling at his age (22), but Gyokeres could provide immediate results as he is in the prime of his career.

The former Coventry City man has netted 43 and 54 goals in his last two campaigns at Sporting CP.

Gyokeres has also contributed 15 and 13 assists, respectively, during the same period for his club.

He will face a sterner challenge on his return to English football, but a 25-goal season would boost Arsenal’s title prospects.

Gyokeres will turn 27 tomorrow. This could be a key factor behind the Gunners’ reluctance to prioritise his signing ahead of Sesko.

Arsenal should make a final decision on their new marquee striker at some point this month.
