Manchester United’s deal to sign Leny Yoro is in place after he completed the first part of his medical, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils appear to have landed a major transfer coup. Yoro initially had his heart set on joining dream club Real Madrid, but persistence has paid off for Man Utd.
With Real Madrid unwilling to break the bank on the Lille teenager, Man Utd took the initiative last week and tabled a whopping bid of €50 million upfront and €12m in potential add-ons, with some reports even stating that the entire package of the deal could rise to as high as €70m.
Lille immediately accepted the bid as they are keen to cash in on Yoro due to his contract expiring next summer. Real Madrid were confident that, if they were unable to lowball the French club, Yoro would be willing to run down his deal and move to Spain next year.
However, this risky approach from Los Blancos has now officially backfired.
Yoro joins Man Utd
Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that Yoro had given his consent to a Man Utd transfer on Tuesday evening. The youngster subsequently flew to Manchester for his medical, with the first part having taken place on Wednesday.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Yoro successfully completed the first part of his medical and a deal to sign the 18-year-old is now in place, just pending his final signature and a second round of physical examinations.
Romano dropped his famous ‘here we go’ on the deal, indicating that the transfer is now all but officially done. Yoro is set to sign a contract until 2029 guaranteed, with Man Utd having the option to trigger a one-year extension.
Though they had to break the bank to land him, Man Utd have snapped up one of Europe’s brightest young talents, a player who had managed to establish himself as a starting-calibre centre-back in a European top-five league at age 17.
