Manchester United continue to showcase inconsistent performances this season. After beating Manchester City last month, they lost four consecutive games in all competitions before displaying promising performances against Liverpool and Arsenal.
However, they were poor against Southampton and Brighton and Hove Albion before displaying a promising performance once again last night vs Rangers in the Europa League.
In the meantime, the January window is open and United have been exploring the market to reinforce the squad to help Amorim finish the season strongly.
TBR Football state that Man Utd are interested in Sporting CP forward Francisco Trincao and they sent scouts to watch him in action against RB Leipzig in the Champions League in midweek.
Along with the Portuguese, United’s scouts also kept an eye on Xavi Simons. Moreover, Amorim’s side have been monitoring Geovany Quenda, Viktor Gyokeres, Maxi Araujo and Benjamin Sesko – who were in action in this fixture.
The Red Devils hold a long-term interest in Trincao as they have been working on a deal to hire him before appointing Ruben Amorim as the new manager. The pair enjoyed great success together at Jose Alvalade Stadium over the last few years.
Barcelona signed the 25-year-old back in 2020 after being impressed by his displays for Sporting Braga. However, he never managed to settle down at the Catalan giants.
He joined Wolves on a loan deal in the following year but couldn’t flourish his career at the West Midlands club. The forward has been showcasing his qualities after returning to his home country.
Trincao is a left-footed right-winger and is also comfortable on the opposite side. Moreover, he can provide cover in the CAM role if needed. The Sporting star has directly contributed in 18 goals (seven goals and eleven assists) in all competitions so far this campaign.
With Antony reportedly close to leaving, signing a new forward to replace the South American flop would be the right decision.
