OFFICIAL NOW: Manchester United finally complete the signing of £100m striker, agreement reached overnight as Medical will be conducted in the few hours – HERE WE GO CONFIRMED
There have been many issues that have plagued Man Utd over the course of the season, and one of the biggest ones was the inefficiency of their strikers in front of goal.
The Red Devils could not get much out of either Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee in the number nine role.
Zirkzee later thrived in a deeper role as Ruben Amorim reinvented his position to highlight his strengths but except for the odd goal here and there, Hojlund struggled to lead the line. Man Utd’s most reliable goalscorer was Bruno Fernandes and that doesn’t make for good reading.
Man Utd will surely be looking to address the same this summer and as per journalist Graeme Bailey via United in Focus, Man Utd are clear to sign talented PSG striker Goncalo Ramos this summer to reinforce the number nine position.
Goncalo Ramos and Man Utd would be a good match
Here is what the journalist had to say on Man Utd’s interest in signing the Seleccao striker who hardly starts for PSG. He said:
“I am told that Manchester United were a club that Ramos was very interested in joining previously, before PSG entered the race. PSG have already told him he can leave this summer, and he knows he is not a key part of the squad. His people are talking to a number of clubs and one of them is United.”
Ramos is considered one of the talented strikers of his generation. However, his club manager, Luis Enrique, prefers to use a fluid system without a conventional number nine, which has seen him being starved off opportunities.
The 23-year-old striker has scored 10 goals in just 12 starts for the Ligue 1 giants this season. In just one Champions League start, he has scored 3 goals. He would cost Man Utd around £50m to sign him from PSG this summer.
While Ramos is not yet the finished product, he has the natural ability to finish chances when they are created for him.
He will definitely be an upgrade on Hojlund in that role and the youngster would also get the chance to resurrect his career.
Having learnt from Luis Enrique at PSG and Cristiano Ronaldo at Portugal, Ramos surely will have the quality to be able to add something to Ruben Amorim’s team. Let’s wait and see how things play out for the 23-year-old going forward.
