Onana benched, Tominay to start, Eriksen finally back’: predicted Man XI vs Aston Villa as Ten Hag set to destroy the Unai Emery men with a killer formation
Manchester United take on Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
United defeated West Ham 3-0 last weekend thanks to a goal from Rasmus Hojlund and a brace from Alejandro Garnacho. Now Erik ten Hag has a close to fully-fit squad, there’s a feeling momentum is building ahead of the business end of the campaign and United have the challenge of playing Villa next.
Regarding the team news, Lisandro Martinez will not be available after sustaining a knee injury against West Ham and Aaron Wan-Bissaka suffered a setback in training. Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia also remain sidelined.
Pick the team
Tyrone Marshall
Ten Hag might be wishing he had never sent Sergio Reguilon back to Tottenham. If the Spaniard was still available he could use Luke Shaw at centre-back, but Reguilon’s departure and Malacia’s ongoing injury issues mean the England international has to play at left-back.
From a defensive point of view I would bring Harry Maguire back in, even if that is not ideal for what Ten Hag wants in build-up play. He has played on the left of the defence for England, even if Ten Hag has been reluctant to play him there.
The rest of the team should be easier to pick. Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro are starting to dovetail nicely and Bruno Fernandes can benefit from the freedom that pair offers him. In attack, Marcus Rashford, Garnacho and Hojlund are starting to click as well and they terrorised Villa’s high defensive line at Old Trafford as well.
