‘One of the best players in the World’: Brighton star Caicedo confirmed His £60M teammate wants to join Arsenal – player not happy with his current club
Arsenal have been linked with Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister in recent months.
Back in December, Spanish outlet AS claimed the Gunners had set their sights on the Argentina international.
As well as Arsenal, the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham have also been linked.
Mac Allister has enjoyed a remarkable season for both club and country.
He helped Argentina win the World Cup for the third time in their history as they triumphed in Qatar.
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi said Mac Allister was “one of the best players at the World Cup”.
Meanwhile, the south coast outfit is on course for their highest ever league finish this term.
Mac Allister’s heroics this term have led to the likes of Arsenal circling ahead of a potential summer swoop.
Journalist Paul Brown has now told GiveMeSport that a move to Arsenal would appeal for Mac Allister.
However, he also said he felt the 24-year-old is no better than Mikel Arteta’s current crop of midfielders.
“I think it would certainly appeal to him,” said Brown.
“It’s whether Arsenal need another player in those kind of areas really
“I don’t think you would say that Mac Allister would get in the team every week.
“I think he’d put pressure on other players in the team but I’m not sure he’s better than what they have.”
‘ABSOLUTELY EXCEPTIONAL’
Mac Allister is an outstanding player whose stock has risen massively this season.
Arsenal coach Jack Wilshere named Mac Allister in his World Cup team of the tournament.
And Graeme Souness deemed him “absolutely exceptional” and better than Lionel Messi in the games he covered.
Mac Allister wouldn’t come cheap – 90Min reported that Brighton want at least £50million for their player.
However, he certainly ticks a lot of boxes for Arsenal.
He’s incredibly talented, is heading into his prime years, and has proven his quality at the highest level.
