‘Only Ronaldo is on same level with him’: Arsenal and Newcastle target the world’s best

Only Cristiano Ronaldo can match Victor Osimhen when it comes to his heading ability, former Napoli striker Bruno Giordano tells Il Mattino as Premier League giants Arsenal and Newcastle United eye the Serie A hotshot.

Osimhen, last year, described that Champions League goal for Lille against Chelsea as the greatest moment of his young career. No wonder. It wasn’t just the timing of the goal – on the biggest stage, against the biggest of opposition – but the nature of it.

The sort of soaring header that made you wonder if Osimhen had rockets built into his football boots. A leap reminiscent of Ronaldo’s iconic goal against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United a decade earlier.

Osimhen has scored a further 14 headers since joining Napoli during the summer of 2020; one against Leicester City, in particular, coming to mind.

And, according to Giordano, there is only one player in world football who can rival the spring-heeled Nigeria international when it comes to converting aerial chances.

IS NAPOLI STRIKER VICTOR OSIMHEN THE BEST IN THE WORLD?

“Osimhen is second to none in the world when it comes to headers,” says the former Partenopei ace. “Only Cristiano Ronaldo is on the same level.

“Victor is experiencing a period of great splendour.”

Napoli’s determination to retain their top scorer is likely to be tested to it’s limits this summer, with so many of Europe’s elite clubs in pursuit of a new number nine.

Tuttomercatoweb believe Arsenal are also hot on Osimhen’s heels; the Gunners long-time admirers of a striker now valued at around £100 million and also on the radar of deep-pocketed, Saudi-backed Newcastle United (Corriere dello Sport).

Osimhen has 21 goals in all competitions this season; 19 in 19 Serie A starts. Striking up a fearsome partnership with Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli are cruising towards their first Serie A title since 1990.

In addition to the Scudetto, AC Milan veteran Olivier Giroud believes another trophy – the Serie A Golden Boot award – is on it’s way to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

“Osimhen,” the World Cup winner said when asked who’s mantelpiece the Capocannoniere award will be adorning. “He does everything well. He has very high confidence.”
