‘Perfect’ player now tells his club he wants to leave, after Arsenal make big push to sign him – deal set be completed soon

According to talkSPORT, reported Arsenal and Manchester United target Lisandro Martinez has told Ajax that he wants to leave the club this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s side are keen to bolster multiple areas of their squad. The Gunners have already brought in Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Gabriel Jesus, but they still need two or three more players to really compete next season.

Among everyone linked, Ajax star Martinez is one player whose name has been a constant over the last few weeks.

But, signing him will not be easy as Manchester United, now under Erik Ten Hag, are also reportedly keen to sign the versatile defender.

Arsenal target Lisandro Martinez tells Ajax he wants to leave

Both Arsenal and Manchester United have tabled bids to sign Martinez from Ajax this summer. So far, the Dutch giants haven’t accepted any offer, but that may soon change.

The report claims that Martinez has handed in a transfer request at Ajax, and he’s keen to move to the Premier League. Arsenal and United seem to be the only two sides interested in him at the moment, and the Red Devils are hoping they have an edge in the race.

It has been claimed that Ten Hag wants to seal the deal as quickly as possible, but Arsenal are also pushing to sign Martinez, who can play in three different positions.

Ten Hag’s presence may well give United the edge in the race, but if Arsenal act quick, they could get a deal done.

Our view

It is no surprise that Arsenal and Manchester United are both trying so hard to sign Martinez this summer.

The 24-year-old, a player viewed as ‘perfect’ by Mikel Arteta according to Fabrizio Romano, can play at left-back, left centre-half and also in defensive midfield. He could solve three different problems for Arsenal next season, and he really would be a fantastic signing.

Martinez handing in a transfer request puts the pressure on Ajax to accept a bid from one of the two interested sides.

Arsenal fans would sure love to have him, but if Ten Hag really pushes to sign him, Manchester United should be able to wrap up the deal in the coming days.
