Personal terms agreed: Arsenal now one step away from signing 22-year-old ‘leader’, personal terms already agreed
Arsenal have launched an opening offer worth £30million for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber – but it may not be enough.
Jurrien Timber is the latest name Arsenal are trying to sign with a £30million offer now submitted to Ajax.
That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Arsenal are now working on a deal to bring Timber to North London.
Arsenal are thought to have submitted an opening proposal worth up to £30million for Timber.
However, Ajax want around £50million for Timber this summer, given that he has two years left on his contract.
Personal terms are already thought to have been agreed between Timber and Arsenal, with optimism that a deal can now be agreed with Ajax
Timber told De Telegraaf in April that a transfer for him was moving ‘closer and closer’ and agreements were in place with Ajax for him to leave.
Arsenal are now moving in to land Timber and will hope to get him snapped up very soon as Mikel Arteta seeks new faces.
Who is Arsenal target Jurrien Timber?
Timber was actually in the Feyenoord ranks before moving onto their bitter rivals Ajax in 2014.
After just 39 games for the Jong Ajax side, Timber became a first-team regular in Amsterdam and is now almost undroppable.
Timber has racked up 121 appearances for Ajax, winning two league titles along the way.
The 22-year-old isn’t the tallest defender at just 5ft 10in tall but he is very quick and and impressive on the ball.
Timber usually plays as a centre back but has also operated as a right back in the past, giving Arsenal the versatility they want.
The 15-cap Dutch international will be able to offer cover and competition for both Ben White and William Saliba on the right side of Arteta’s back line
That’s exactly what Arsenal wanted this summer and Timber seems to tick the right boxes for Arteta.
A number of Premier League clubs have been linked with Timber, including Manchester United, Liverpool and even Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s Arsenal who now look set to land Timber, who has been hailed as a ‘great leader’ by United boss Erik ten Hag having worked together at Ajax.
