‘Personal terms agreed’: Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal have spoken to £113m superstar’s agent

Fabrizio Romano has said Arsenal have been in discussions with Jorge Mendes over the signing of Joao Felix, with the Gunners in the race to land the Portuguese international in the January transfer window.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the Italian transfer guru revealed that Arsenal have been in talks with the super-agent over Felix, with Romano saying: “It’s true they had conversations with his agent, Jorge Mendes. But it depends on the conditions of the deal because if it’s more than €100million, I think it is going to be difficult.”

Atletico Madrid are eager to offload Felix in January despite signing the attacker in 2019 for a club-record £113m and the 23-year-old recently shining at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with competition increasing for the forward ahead of next month.

And Arsenal are seemingly leading the chase to sign Felix, with Mikel Arteta’s side keen to add to the Gunners’ attacking ranks in January following a long-term injury blow to Gabriel Jesus, who is expected to be out for at least three months.

Indeed, an attacker was already Arsenal’s priority in the winter market with a wide-player set to arrive in the coming weeks. However, injury to Jesus has seemingly forced Arteta and technical director Edu Gaspar to change tact in regards to transfers.

And progress is now seemingly being made in the race to sign Felix for January, with Arsenal now in discussions with the Portuguese superstar’s agent as a move in January is becoming more and more realistic for the north London side.

Felix’s quality is hard to ignore, with the attacker one of the best in the world in the right system with the right group of players supporting him. However, given Arsenal’s style of play, the Portuguese superstar simply will not work for the north London side.

As a result, Arsenal are taking a huge gamble in attempting to sign Felix next month given how different the forward is compared to Jesus, who has been one of the Gunners’ most important players this season and has been a vital clog in Arteta’s incredible success.
