Mikel Arteta genuinely thinks Arsenal are going to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykyhaylo Mudryk in January now, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Arsenal look set to bolster Arteta’s side with some fresh faces this month as they aim to keep their Premier League title hopes on track.
The Gunners are flying high with a five-point lead at the top of the table but Arteta will need to add some extra depth to his side for the business end of the season.
Of course, Arsenal have been heavily linked with bringing Mudryk to north London over the past few weeks.
Arteta’s men are facing added competition for the 21-year-old after Chelsea entered the race but the Spaniard is seemingly confident his side will get the deal over the line.
Arteta thinks Arsenal will sign Mudryk
Romano provided an update on Mudryk’s future for Caught Offside and revealed that Arteta is confident Mudryk will end up in north London.
“Of course Arsenal are confident, and Arteta too,” the transfer insider said.
“But reaching an agreement with Shakhtar is crucial, they were so strong in negotiations also in August when they turned down €30m from Everton when it sounded like a great bid.
“No deadlines have been mentioned in the negotiations, as of now; talks continue.”
Mudryk seems desperate to join Arteta at Arsenal after dropping plenty of hints on his social media over the past few weeks.
Ben Jacobs claimed just yesterday that the 22-year-old prefers a switch to north London over Chelsea.
But the Ukrainian club are holding firm on their valuation of the ‘incredible’ winger at this moment in time and Arsenal have already had a bid knocked back.
Of course, Arsenal are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements after Gabriel Jesus picked up a knee injury at the World Cup.
Mudryk would certainly fit the bill as a player who is able to operate either wing, providing quality competition for both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
The only thing that’s seemingly holding up this deal from being completed is Shakhtar’s valuation. Arsenal will have to get closer to it, but Arteta will be hoping they can find some middle ground before the end of the month.
