Indeed, the Belgium international is believed to have agreed terms with the Gunners back in summer.

However, Arsenal are yet to make a move. And now, Newcastle United could potentially swoop in instead.

According to the Northern Echo, the Magpies will make formal enquiries over Tielemans and James Maddison.

Newcastle have apparently scouted Tielemans extensively over the past few years.

Now, with Jonjo Shelvey’s situation ‘having forced a slight recalibration of transfer priorities’, the Magpies could finally make their move.

Shelvey will trigger a one-year contract extension if he starts two more matches.

However, he is nursing a calf injury that will sideline him for up to eight weeks.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle could opt to allow him to leave in the summer.

Tielemans would be a ready-made replacement who can slot right into Eddie Howe’s XI.

As for Arsenal, they reportedly remain interested in the 25-year-old, but they don’t seem to be in a rush to actually sign him.

Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport: “The hunch that I get from speaking to people close to this situation is that Arsenal would prefer to just see this situation play out through January and hope he’s still available at the end of it.”

The Gunners have been linked with Tielemans for months, but it’s almost like they’re not that bothered about actually signing him.

It looks like a no-brainer. Tielemans is an ‘incredible‘ player who knows the Premier League well and, at 25, has plenty of years ahead of him.

With his contract expiring in the summer, he’s also likely to be available for cheap.

But still, Arsenal haven’t made their move. And if Newcastle swoop in and sign him instead, then it’s not like the Gunners weren’t warned.
