‘Personal terms agreed’: Sky reporter claims one Arsenal player that Arteta love is now closing in on a move to London rivals
Arsenal defender is reportedly edging closer to a departure from the Emirates Stadium.
The 31-year-old is a player Mikel Arteta rates highly, but who is getting very little game time for the Gunners.
This season, Soares has made just four appearances in all competitions, clocking up a mere 120 minutes of game time.
Fulham have reportedly been pushing to sign the Arsenal full-back over the past few weeks.
Now, Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has provided an update on the Cottagers’ pursuit of the Gunners ace.
Sky Sports News also provided an update about Soares on their live transfer feed on Tuesday afternoon.
Fulham remain in talks with the representatives of Arsenal right-back Cedric Soares,’ they wrote (17/1/23, 14:40).
The discussions are over personal terms after Arsenal gave the right-back permission to speak to their London rivals.
‘Cedric – who has 18 months left on his contract – has been a long-term target for Fulham, who will try to seal the deal with Arsenal if they can agree terms with the 31-year-old.’
Best for all parties – our View
This is one of those transfer stories where a move away is the best outcome for every party.
Cedric’s attitude has always been superb, and Arteta has praised him on multiple occasions.
However, the Portuguese has been a back-up for much of his time at the Emirates Stadium.
And with Ben White’s emergence as a right-back, it has pushed Soares down to third in the pecking order.
The ‘fantastic‘ defender deserves regular football, and Fulham will be able to give this to him.
Admittedly, an injury to either of Arteta’s main RBs, combined with a Cedric departure, could come back to haunt Arsenal.
However, there’s only so long you can keep talented, committed players on the bench as cover for so long.
Cedric turns 32 this year. He’s heading into the twilight of his professional career and he should make the most of it by playing regularly.
