‘Played very well’: Andy Townsend wowed by 24-year-old Arsenal player today

Andy Townsend has said on talkSPORT (1:33pm, September 18, 2022) that Arsenal centre-back Ben White played well at right-back against Brentford in the London derby today.

The former Chelsea midfielder believes that England international centre-back White was very composed as a right full-back for Arsenal in the Premier League game against Brentford this afternoon.

William Saliba and Gabriel were the two centre-backs for the Gunners against the Bees.

Like they have been this season.

White is a centre-back by trade, but the former Leeds United loanee was pushed out to right-back.

And talkSPORT co-commentator Townsend was impressed by what he saw from the 24-year-old defender.

ANDY TOWNSEND ON BEN WHITE FOR ARSENAL V BRENTFORD

Townsend said: “Ben White has played very well today as well. Composure, and getting forward when he can, making sure he is always covering around in that back-four as you have got to from that right full-back position. Again, he has been nice and confident and he has played well.”

IMPRESSIVE

In our view, Ben White played well for Arsenal against Brentford in the Premier League today.

Now, White has played as a right-back before, but it seems that with every game that he is playing in that role, he is getting better.

White was defensively solid against the Bees, and he also pushed forward when he needed to.

The former Leeds loanee is not part of the latest England squad, and it will be interesting to see if Arteta does eventually get him back into centre-back.
