Player ‘close’ to signing new contract with Arsenal – ‘Bucket of cold water’ over rumours
It’s now time for the Brazilian media to speak about Gabriel Martinelli’s renewal with Arsenal.
Outlet Lance reports that the starlet is ‘close’ to extending his contract with the Gunners. It’s said he has a ‘well forwarded’ agreement with the club for a new deal which would run until 2027.
Following recent reports about Barcelona’s interest in the player, the outlet writes that this is a ‘bucket of cold water’ over the Catalan club, who are now unlikely to have any chance of taking the 21-year-old from Arsenal.
Gabriel Martinelli joined the Gunners in a €7m move from Ituano in 2019, and despite arriving really young in a new country, he was able to quickly make his way to the first team. Playing for the London side, he already reached 104 appearances, with 23 goals and 15 assists so far.
His performances for Arsenal were enough to give him a place at the World Cup, where he even featured in three games, despite Brazil’s disappointing campaign which stopped in the quarter-finals.
Following initial reports from the English media about the talks for a new contract, it’s interesting to see the Brazilian press coming up to confirm the deal is on the way.
