‘Prepared to join’: Romano says ‘powerful’ player has given Arsenal his word that he’ll join – personal terms agreed
Speaking on the House of Champions Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been sharing the latest on the race to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk.
It feels like Arsenal have been trying to get this deal done since the dawn of time, while Chelsea have now entered the race at the eleventh hour.
The Blues are hoping to gazump the Gunners here, but they may find it difficult to get the ‘powerful’ winger to sign for them.
Indeed, Mudryk seemingly has his heart set on Arsenal, and according to Romano, the player has actually given the Gunners his word that he will sign for them if an agreement can be reached between the two clubs.
MUDRYK HAS GIVEN HIS WORD
Romano shared an update on this transfer tale.
“There is still no agreement between Arsenal and Shakhtar. The second bid was not accepted, this is why there is no agreement. Then there is the player’s side. The player’s side is very clear. Mudryk wants to go to Arsenal as a priority, this is no secret, but Arsenal have to be fast, otherwise Chelsea will push,” Romano said.
“The player wants Arsenal, but that doesn’t mean the player is turning down all of the clubs in the world to wait for Arsenal. Let’s see what happens in the next few days. Arsenal have a chance to close the deal, they have the player with his word, prepared to join Mikel Arteta, to join the club and dreaming of the club.”
NEED TO PAY UP
It’s all well and good that Mudryk has told Arsenal that he’ll sign for them, but it means the square root of absolutely nothing if the Gunners can’t agree terms with Shakhtar.
The Ukrainian club’s stance is very clear. Pay £88m for Mudryk or wait until the summer. So the question is, what will Arsenal do?
£88m would represent a club record fee for this player, but, to be honest, the Gunners may need a signing of that magnitude to find that extra gear this season and ultimately win the title race with Manchester City.
