Spanish giants Real Madrid are interested in re-signing Raphael Varane from Manchester United following David Alaba’s injury.
Carlo Ancelotti‘s men are extremely short at the back. They have just two fit senior central defenders available, and that is a serious concern. Bringing Varane back to the Santiago Bernabeu would solve many issues.
Real Madrid want to sign Raphael Varane from Manchester United
Raphael Varane was a superstar at Real Madrid before he left them to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United in the summer of 2021.
The Red Devils sealed the deal for just £34 million (The Athletic), which was viewed by many as an absolute steal at the time.
However, things have just not gone to plan, has it?
Varane has played just 431 minutes of football in the Premier League this season. Many feel the France international doesn’t want to be at Old Trafford anymore.
Now, ahead of the January transfer window, Varane’s future is up in the air, and German journalist Christian Falk has claimed that Real Madrid want to re-sign him.
The Galacticos lost David Alaba for the remainder of the season after it was confirmed that he ruptured his ACL. He joins fellow defender Eder Militao on the sidelines.
Real Madrid only have Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez available at the back now, and if Falk is to be believed, they are keen to bring Varane back next month.
He tweeted: “After the injury of David Alaba: Real Madrid is interested in Raphaël Varane (30).”
Varane’s Manchester United contract expires in 2024
The Athletic revealed just a few days ago that Raphael Varane’s contract at Manchester United actually expires at the end of this season.
The Red Devils have the option to extend that by another year, but if a chance to return to Real Madrid comes up, we’re sure Varane will seriously consider it.
The Frenchman made a name as one of the best defenders in the world during his time at the Bernabeu. He won everything there, and he is still capable of doing a job under Carlo Ancelotti.
However, whether Manchester United would be willing to let him go remains to be seen.
