Reason Why Martin Odegaard shouted at Arteta during Arsenal win over Man Utd to close Liverpool gap
Arsenal closed the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool with a win over old rivals Manchester United. Liverpool’s draw at Newcastle gives that little glimmer of hope a little more shine for the Gunners to hold onto.
The game was played to a very timid standard in the first half with very little way of chances. Jurrien Timber, however, would give the Gunners the lead just after the break, heading in from a corner before a second was bundled home via William Saliba.
While the game was indeed television on Amazon Prime, the television cameras cannot catch everything. Thankfully, football.london were inside the Emirates Stadium and can provide a glimpse of some of the things that have been missed.
Odegaard shouts at Arteta
As the first half was reaching its conclusion, Martin Odegaard had the opportunity to give his manager some words. Spotted, arms waving, Arteta finally caught his captain’s attempts to reach him.
Odegaard, clearly not happy with his side’s attacking efforts, gestured to Arteta about the passes in behind were not reaching their mark and perhaps the movement was not there for his usual incisive efforts. Arteta looked equally as frustrated as the skipper, but had little in the way to offer anything specific besides also throwing his hands up in the air.
The Jover embrace
Arsenal would take the lead early in the second half following a corner from Declan Rice. Gabriel Magalhaes was missing from the Gunners XI through injury, significantly limiting the home side’s threat… or so we thought.
Timber rose highest and found a header to glance past Andre Onana. In the celebrations, Nicolas Jover could be seen by the cameras getting an embrace from Arteta, but what was missed was the individual congratulations from the rest of the Gunners staff.
‘Set-piece again!’
The second goal came once again courtesy of a set piece, a corner from the other side as Bukayo Saka sent another deep cross to the back post. Thomas Partey was able to head the ball across goal where Saliba got some part of his body on it and redirected it into the back of the net.
It has not been lost on anyone just how deadly the Gunners are from these set pieces, and that has translated to the crowd. The Arsenal fans have always been inventive with their chants and the latest one indeed brings a smile to the faces of anyone in red and white hearing it.
“Set piece again! Set piece again! Set piece again Olay Olay!” Certainly catchy, and one we can imagine will be dominating the Emirates Stadium for many months to come.
