Ajax midfielder has skipped training this morning to push through a deadline day move to Chelsea, with Arsenal also reportedly interested in signing the Mexican international.
According to De Telegraaf, Edson Alvarez was not present at Ajax’s training ground today with Alvarez eager to move to west London, with the report stating that the Blues have recently made a €50m (£43m) offer to sign the midfielder, who Arsenal are also chasing.
A defensive midfielder with the ability to play as a centre-back, Alvarez has been one of Ajax’s most important players in the past two seasons, however, with Lisandro Martinez and Antony both leaving the Dutch giants this summer, Alfred Schreuder is unwilling to let a third key player leave.
As per the report, a move to the Premier League is a dream for Alvarez, yet with Ajax unwilling to sell and Chelsea working on a deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, it seems unlikely that the Blues will land the Mexican star today, much to joy of Arsenal, who could renew their interest in January.
CHELSEA MISSING OUT ON ALVAREZ SIGNING IS A BOOST FOR ARSENAL
With Ajax unwilling to sell Alvarez this summer, Arsenal now have a chance to sign the Chelsea target should the Blues drop their interest in five months time, which could be a likely possibility given the transfer strategy of the west London side.
Indeed, the midfielder is ready for a move to the Premier League, but with Ajax unwilling to sell their star Mexican, clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea will have to wait until January to move for the 24-year-old, a waiting period that could be worth it should Alvarez continue to develop.
