Report: Arsenal now willing to pay over £30m to sign ‘amazing’ defender who Conte really wants Spurs to get
Calciomercato.it reports that Arsenal are now willing to pay over £30 million for Denzel Dumfries – a wing-back who Antonio Conte really wants Tottenham Hotspur to sign.
Arsenal will undoubtedly be aiming to bolster their squad in January in order to maintain their brilliant early-season form.
Mikel Arteta’s squad looks slightly light in certain positions, particularly in midfield and the wide areas.
But they could also be looking to bolster their options at right-back and have seemingly set their sights on a player Conte really likes.
Calciomarcato.it claimed last week that Spurs could offer Emerson Royal in order to strike a cheaper deal for Dumfries in January. But the Gunners could be ready to offer a straight-cash deal for the 26-year-old.
Arsenal willing to pay for Dumfries
The Italian outlet claims that Arsenal want to rival other English clubs for the signature of Dumfries in January.
Inter value the wing-back at no less than £35 million but the Gunners are willing to offer up to around £31 million.
The Nerazzurri paid just over £12 million for the former PSV man last summer.
The ‘amazing’ Dumfries has enjoyed an excellent year in Italy and has provided a real threat from the wing-back role.
The Dutchman would certainly provide Arsenal with a different type of option at right-back, but it would be surprising to see them prioritise strengthening this position.
The Gunners will probably focus on bolstering their midfield and the wide areas after missing out on targets such as Douglas Luiz and Raphinha over the summer.
Spurs seem to be more in need of strengthening this area of the pitch, with Royal and Matt Doherty underperforming this season.
Dumfries seems to be a player that could be well-suited to Premier League football though and possesses brilliant pace.
If the Dutchman were to make the switch to either north London side, it would be a good signing for both Conte and Arteta.
