Report: ARSENAL “WONDERKID” SIGNS NEW CONTRACT TO END TRANSFER RUMOUR
Alex Runarsson will leave Arsenal this summer, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that he will join Alanyaspor on loan for the season.
Runarsson leaving the Gunners will have been expected. Unfortunately, he has proved to be a really disappointing signing for the club.
He arrived amid speculation Emi Martinez would move on. Of course, Martinez had just enjoyed an outstanding run in the side as number one.
Arsenal did promote Bernd Leno back to the first-choice spot. But whenever Runarsson did get an opportunity, he almost looked to be out of his depth, making a number of costly mistakes in the handful of games he played.
The Iceland international spent last season on loan in Belgium. And he looks destined to leave again in the coming days.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Runarsson will leave and join Alanyaspor on loan. It is hinted that the deal would not include an option to buy.
It is no surprise at all to see Runarsson on the verge of leaving the Emirates. Leno has moved on. But Matt Turner has arrived to provide cover and competition for Aaron Ramsdale.
In truth, the writing has been on the wall for some time. And it would be a major shock if he played for Arsenal again.
The hope for the Gunners, and for Runarsson, is that his form can attract a permanent offer.
A loan spell will obviously help with that. But ultimately, it is probably not the end of the world if he sees out his contract with the Gunners.
He did not cost a lot. And it is hard to imagine that he is on the most lucrative deal.
For Runarsson, he will hope that the fresh challenge sparks an upturn in his fortunes.
