Santi Cazorla says old Arsenal teammate Olivier Giroud is ‘the best’

Arsenal stars of the past Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud caught up in Qatar yesterday after France’s training session.

The two players joined the Gunners in the same window back in 2012. Arsenal splashed about £15 million (BBC) to sign Cazorla from Malaga, while Giroud, a French champion with Monperllier, cost Arsene Wenger’s side £12 million (BBC).

The duo spent six years together, and it looks like they’re still on great terms with each other.

Giroud is 36 now, but he’s showing no signs of stopping.

The Frenchman, who was so often criticised during his time at Arsenal, has achieved great things in his career. He won the World Cup with France, Champions League with Chelsea and most recently, the Serie A at AC Milan.

Earlier this week, he equalled Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s record of 51 international goals for Les Bleus, and it’s only a matter of time before he becomes France’s highest goalscorer in history.

That is an extraordinary achievement and Cazorla has branded him as ‘the best’ after meeting him in Qatar yesterday.

The Spaniard wrote on Instagram: “What a joy to see you again my friend.

“You are the best and I hope to see you again soon, thanks for today and good luck in the World Cup brother. Kisses for your family!”

We don’t know who the most underrated player in the world is, but Giroud has to be right up there.

He has never been the type of player who will score 30 goals a season for you, but he’s fantastic at what he does. He scored over 100 goals for Arsenal during his time there, which is no easy feat at all.

Giroud has always had his doubters, but since his £18 million (BBC) move to Chelsea from Arsenal in January 2018, he has constantly been proving people wrong.

If he carries on his form in Qatar, he could well help France retain their crown.
