“Silencing that particular Man United player is all I told them to do but they failed woefully…They have been suspended”: Barnsley Coach suspends THREE PLAYERS for failing to handle ONE particular Man United’s player

Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke has not held back in his criticism of his players following their humiliating 7-0 defeat to Premier League giants Manchester United in the EFL Cup.

The Tykes were hopeful of performing a “giant killing” prior to the game with Sky Sports even billing the meeting as a “potential shock” on their TV guide. However, the match played out very differently with the Red Devils putting their lower league opposition to the sword with a strong lineup.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Christian Eriksen, Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro all started the game and the gulf in quality showed as a clinical and dominant performance led Erik ten Hag’s side through to the next round with ease.

Braces from Eriksen, Rashford, Garnacho and a penalty from Antony caused the League One boss to question his players.

What has been said about the Manchester United win?

Speaking to Sky Sports, Darrell Clarke discussed his side’s performance:

“They are a quality team. But really disappointed our performance. We didn’t do ourselves justice. Not an acceptable performance from us. I know its a very, very good team, and I get that. But it is a huge wake up call for my players to realise what its like to be a very, very top player.”

“If I hear one of my players tell me Premier League players, when watching a game, are poor, I’ll be giving them a slap! Because they were miles off it.

“Decision making, we gave sloppy goals away, we made crazy decisions when we were under the cosh. I set standards at this football club, and we’ve gone below what we require even if it was against Manchester United.”

Whereas opposition boss Erik ten Hag praised his team after recording their biggest victory since he came in as boss:

“First of all, it was a difficult start but, once we found the shape, it’s not so weird because it’s the first time this team is playing together. But once we found the shape and the patterns, we scored some great goals, starting with [Marcus] Rashford which was a brilliant goal but I’d also say some other goals were really good. We played with a lot of speed and we were very ruthless in front of the goal.”
