‘STILL MOANING’: SKY PRESENTER REACTS TO TOTTENHAM PLAYERS’ ACTIONS ON ARSENAL PITCH AFTER FT
Jeff Stelling has claimed that the Tottenham Hotspur players were ‘still moaning’ after the full-time whistle of their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby on Saturday.
The Sky presenter added that the call to send Emerson Royal off in the second-half, which is what Spurs players were complaining about, was the right call and the wing-back was ‘out of order’ for his tackle on Gabriel Martinelli, as he told Sky Sports News.
Arsenal were leading 2-1 when Emerson Royal was sent for an early bath, with Mikel Arteta’s men being the better team, both in terms of performance and the scoreline, at that time.
Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise when they added a third goal to their name, with Martinelli and Granit Xhaka combining for both of Arsenal’s defensive-minded midfielders getting on the scoresheet, alongside star man, Gabriel Jesus.
There were a number of big calls made by on-field referee Anthony Taylor, including awarding the away team a penalty, once again, just like the red card, it was the correct call.
But the Spurs players, after the full-time whistle of the weekend’s game, seemingly disagreed with the Emerson call and Sky presenter Stelling had this response for them.
“By the way, at the end, the Spurs players were still moaning to referee Anthony Taylor about the red card he showed to Emerson Royal,” said Stelling.
“But when they see the replays, then they will know that the referee was absolutely right and Emerson Royal was right out of order.”
Emerson was signed by Spurs last summer, and for large parts, he was struggling to settle and not be a liability at the back.
But, during the final few months of last season and the start of the current campaign, things did start to pick up for the former Barcelona man.
That pushed him ahead of Matt Doherty in the pecking order, as well as summer signing Djed Spence, but could his suspension open the door for one of those players to now start on a regular basis?
If it’s going to be anyone, then it will be Doherty because the Republic of Ireland international was performing well for Conte, prior to his season-ending injury at Aston Villa in April.
