Sunday morning done deal: Man united set to complete the signing of new left back today, the £60m have agreed to join, medical date fixed already
Premier league star Nicolas Jackson may have hinted at Marc Cucurella’s potential move to Manchester United in the coming days of the summer transfer window.
It comes as the Spaniard has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, with contact made over the possibility of a loan deal. The Red Devils are on the lookout for a cheaper option in the transfer window when it comes to their left-back options, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both injured.
When it comes to Cucurella, the links follow a nightmare first year with the Blues, following his £62million switch from Brighton last summer. The Spaniard was crowned player of the season for 2021/22 for the Seagulls, which prompted the transfer interest from the west London outfit.
The left-back struggled to settle down properly as a string of high profile mistakes combined with poor results to create a difficult atmosphere. Cucurella was booed several times by Chelsea fans over the course of last season, with many unhappy with the big money signing.
Heading into the new campaign under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, the 25-year-old seemed unlikely to be part of the plans going forward. The defender is yet to start any of the Premier League games so far, with Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill preferred on the left-side.
That has led to the interest from Manchester United, who are in the market for a left-back option following a few injury concerns. Fabrizio Romano reports that opening contact has been made by the Red Devils for Cucurella in hopes of landing a cheap loan, though no bid has been made at this stage.
Posting that information to Instagram, Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson happened to like the post put up by Romano, seemingly hinting at the move itself going through. It remains to be seen whether the move will go ahead, but with the Blues open to an exit, it could be one to keep an eye on.
